His further specialization was completed through an Orthopedic Surgery Residency with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, achieving the prestigious FRACS designation. Following residency, he trained as a Senior Orthopedic Registrar at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopedic Hospital in Exeter, United Kingdom, and completed a Spine Surgery Fellowship at LSU Health Science Center, focusing on complex spinal deformities and scoliosis. These rigorous training experiences laid the foundation for a career distinguished by technical excellence, innovation, and leadership in orthopedic surgery.
During his tenure at LSU Health Science Center, Dr. King has held the titles of G. Dean MacEwen Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and served as the Robert DAmbrosia Professor and chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery from 2005 to 2015, overseeing faculty practice, resident education, and departmental initiatives. His contributions to the field continue through case consultations, second opinions, and the development of innovative surgical devices. He is the chair-elect of the Historical Committee of the Scoliosis Research Society.
